Exchange 2010 SP1 to Exchange 2010 SP3 Upgrade – Error “There should only be a single RMS Shared Identity user”

Currently We are going to upgrade Exchange 2010 SP1 to Exchange 2010 SP3 as prerequisite of upgrading to Exchange 2016 coexist. But on the mid of process, we re facing some error shown below.
Picture 1. Error message on upgrade process

As you can see, there are two RMS Shared Identity which one of them is disabled state.
How to fix the error:
  • Try to find the disabled user account using Active Directory User and Computer or ADSIEDIT as shown on Picture 2
Picture 2. Adsiedit console showing disabled account

  • Just delete the disabled account, then rerun the upgrade process or you should reboot your server first will fix the issue.
  • Why there are two account still being my question, may be this is part of previous unclean upgrade process. Hope this is help.
